Some of the 1-to-1 computing initiatives under way in Arkansas include:
In Fayetteville there are two one-to-one projects currently in our highest "free and reduced lunch count" elementary schools. Fayetteville has roughly 8200 students and is in a high-growth area of the state. The Jefferson Elementary project was completed last year and program evaluation is occurring based on prior years' and this year's test scores. Simultaneously, Asbell Elementary is coming on-line throughout this school year. Both projects are designed to be implemented at a reasonable pace with grade-level training, training, and more training for the teachers emphasizing integration into core curriclum. FSPS received an EETT Grant from the Arkansas Dept. of Education in August of 2004 for a pilot program in one elementary school. Every 4th, 5th, and 6th grader received a Tungsten E PalmOne Handheld Computer in October, 2004. Teacher training and equipment were included in the grant. |
